To the Teacher and the Three Jewels, I bow.<\/p>\n

True leader of the golden age \u2014 Crown of the Shakyas!
\nSecond Buddha, Prince of Oddiyana, Lake-Born Vajra,
\nBodhisattvas, eight closest spiritual heirs,
\nThe high noble ones, Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, and\u00a0the others!
\nTwenty-one Taras, Host of Noble Elders,
\nRoot and lineage lamas, deities, peaceful and wrathful gods!
\nDakinis in your three realms!
\nYou who Through wisdom or karma have become defenders of the\u00a0doctrine!
\nGuardians of the directions!
\nSeventy-five glorious protectors!
\nYou who are clairvoyant, powerful, magical, and mighty!
\nBehold and ponder the beings of this time of turmoil!
\nWe are beings born in this sorry degenerate age;
\nAn ocean of ill effects overflows from our universally bad actions.
\nThe forces of light flicker,
\nThe forces of darkness \u2014 a demon army \u2014 inflame great and\u00a0powerful men
\nAnd they rise in conflict, armed with nuclear weapons
\nThat will disintegrate the earth.<\/p>\n

The weapons of perverse and errant intentions
\nHave unleashed the hurricane.
\nSoon, in an instant, it will reduce the world
\nAnd all those in it to atoms of dust.
\nThrough this ill-omened devil\u2019s tool
\nIt is easy to see, hear, and think about
\nIgnorant people, caught in a net of confusion and doubt,
\nWho are obstinate and still refuse to understand.
\nIt terrifies us just to hear about or to remember
\nThis unprecedented thing.
\nThe world is filled with uncertainty,
\nBut there is no means of stopping it, nor place of hope,
\nOther than you, undeceiving Three Jewels and Three Roots.
\nIf we cry to you like children calling their mother and father,
\nIf we implore you with this prayer,
\nDo not falter in your ancient vows!
\nStretch out the lightning hand of compassion!
\nProtect and shelter us defenseless beings and free us from fear!
\nWhen the mighty barbarians sit in council of war \u2014
\nBarbarians who rob the earth of joy and happiness,
\nBarbarians who have wrong, rough, poisonous thoughts \u2014
\nBend their chiefs and lieutenants
\nTo the side of peace and happiness!
\nPacify on the spot, the armed struggle that obstructs us!
\nTurn away and defeat the atomic weapons<\/p>\n

Of the demons\u2019 messengers,
\nAnd by that power, make long the life of the righteous,
\nAnd spread the theory and practice of the doctrine
\nTo the four corners of this great world!
\nEliminate root, branch, and leaf \u2014 even the names
\nOf those dark forces, human and nonhuman,
\nWho hate others and the teaching!
\nSpread vast happiness and goodness
\nOver this fragile planet!
\nElevate it truly with the four kinds of glory!
\nAnd as in the golden age, with all strife gone,
\nLet us be busy only with the dance of happiness,
\nThe dance of joy!
\nWe pray with pure thoughts
\nBy the ocean of compassion of the three supreme refuges
\nAnd the power of the realm of truth,
\nThe complete sublime truth,
\nAchieve the goal of this, our prayer
\nMagically, just as we have hoped and dreamed!<\/p>\n
