?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I was born high up in the mountains.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What brought you to Scotland?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 My husband is from Scotland.\u00a0 I married a Scotsman.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Where did you meet him?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I met him in my own country.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you have a strong national identity being stretched between you own country and Scotland?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No, I don\u2019t.\u00a0 Because I was brought up in a different country from the one I was born in and I now live in Scotland.\u00a0 I have lived in Scotland most of my life.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ve heard that you\u2019ve been around the world.\u00a0 Why?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It was mainly my husband’s idea, to go around the world: \u00a0to take a break and travel because travelling is not something I really enjoy.\u00a0 I don\u2019t enjoy travelling so much.\u00a0 But my husband always wanted to go off.\u00a0 And I thought it was a good idea to take a break from my work and go and be in a place where I\u2019ve never been.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And you met your family on the way as well?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I met my family, my husband\u2019s family and lots of other friends, my husband\u2019s family and some friends are in Australia.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 So what did this trip do to you?\u00a0 Did you come back with something special?\u00a0 Have you gained from it?\u00a0 Not in size. [laughter]<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I have gained in size as well!\u00a0 It does help me to see different people, different places, how people live and how we get caught up in small, small things within ourselves.\u00a0 It has broadened the way I look at things.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Have you changed in your everyday life after this trip?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Maybe, though not from how it looks on the outside, but because of the experience I have simplified my life now.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Just what do you mean by that?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 That\u2019s a good question. [laughter] By having not too much expectation, just to take it as it comes, whatever I\u2019m faced with:\u00a0 and also not to make a big deal out of little, little things.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 So, you\u2019re more distanced!<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Yes, I probably don\u2019t get so involved emotionally with situations.\u00a0 Not as much as I used to before.\u00a0 But I don\u2019t know how long it\u2019ll last because I\u2019m back only six-months.\u00a0 It may not be like this for a long time. [laughter]<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Are you back in your job now?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I am back in my job and in other situations too.\u00a0 I used to have lots of friends and a busy social life.\u00a0 I don\u2019t do that so much any more.\u00a0 Not don\u2019t do it, I don\u2019t feel that I need to do it.\u00a0 So I can make a choice.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You\u2019re a Buddhist!<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Yes, I\u2019m a Buddhist.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You\u2019ve always been a Buddhist?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I was born in a Buddhist family.\u00a0 But when I was young I did practise a bit of Hinduism.\u00a0 I used to do a lot of meditation and things like that; and then I came to ___ and there was a period of time in my life that I didn\u2019t do anything.\u00a0 But I have started to practise Buddhism<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And do you find it easy to have your working life to feed yourself and then to have your Buddhist life to evolve spiritually?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For me to be able to do my work properly, I need to have my practice.\u00a0 Without my practice I probably wouldn\u2019t be able to perform.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 How do you think Buddhism influences your working life?\u00a0 What do you mean exactly?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I don\u2019t get affected so much if anything happens at work.\u00a0 I have to deal with quite a lot of clients who are distressed and also there is office politics. \u00a0I don\u2019t get involved.\u00a0 I don\u2019t get affected by it.\u00a0 I can detach myself from the situation and not be judgemental.\u00a0 And also, this thing about impermanence and having compassion, that helps me to remind myself whenever a difficult situation arises.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You don\u2019t find it scary to turn into a Buddha tomorrow?\u00a0 You\u2019re looking forward to it?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To become a Buddha will probably take many, many lifetimes.\u00a0 But that\u2019s what my goal is.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Did you take Bodhisattva vows?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ve taken Bodhisattva vows many times.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What are your views on Buddhism in action?\u00a0 Are you an engaged Buddhist?<\/span><\/p>\n

? \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Buddhism in action\u2026I think means quite a lot.\u00a0 In a simplified form for me would to be aware of what you are doing and to be kind and compassionate.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you do anything for the environment?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I don\u2019t think deliberately, but I recycle things; and I\u2019m quite aware of the Karmapa\u2019s teaching about the environment.\u00a0 That\u2019s something that really appeals to me.\u00a0 I really admire when people out there are aware of that.\u00a0 It really makes me feel happy.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Who\u2019s your teacher?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ringu Tulku Rinpoche.\u00a0 He\u2019s the one who probably helped me get back into the Buddhist way of living.\u00a0 Although I was born in a Buddhist family, I didn\u2019t have too much connection with Buddhism for some reason.\u00a0 But coming back here [to Scotland] I went to quite a few classes and teachings and when I met Rinpoche I thought \u201cThis is it!\u201d\u00a0 I got a connection.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He\u2019s cute, isn\u2019t he?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He\u2019s cute! [laughter]<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Would you like to say anything else?<\/span><\/p>\n

?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When we were travelling, we did manage to go to quite a few places – Buddhist retreats.\u00a0 Going to Sikkim and doing a month\u2019s retreat was a highlight of our trip.\u00a0 We stayed in the retreat centre.\u00a0 It\u2019s beautiful and I would advise people to take a year out and enjoy.<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thank you!<\/span><\/p>\n
