Today is the first day of spring, the \u00a0vernal equinox, and I came across some unlikely news in a publication,\u00a0International Business Times<\/em>. The column reminds the readers that this day is also the undeclared<\/em> UN\u00a0International Day of Happiness. \u00a0<\/em>There is a surprising article about this day in the paper where it rather poetically states:<\/span><\/p>\n

.<\/i><\/span>..in the world that has always been basking in the glory of economic prosperity and material gain and measuring the substance of growth only in terms of\u00a0<\/i><\/span>Gross Domestic Product (GDP),\u00a0it is hard to imagine the\u00a0possibility\u00a0of looking at progress through the perspective of people’s happiness.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The article then continues to use the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan as an example of\u00a0striking a balance\u00a0<\/em> between the material and the spiritual welfare of its citizens hoping to\u00a0impart\u00a0<\/em>happiness to all.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ironically, there is news on the same page of a Tibetan mastiff puppy being sold for $2 million in China. \u00a0That’s going to make somebody happy.<\/span><\/p>\n

How did I celebrate\u00a0International Day of Happiness<\/em>? \u00a0Between downpours, I potted some seeds in the hope they would germinate for replanting in the early summer.<\/span><\/p>\n
