The blood of Irish, Catholic immigrants<\/span>
\n And Russian, Jewish refugees<\/span>
\n Flows through the veins of this Buddhist nun,<\/span>
\n A seeker of wisdom, compassion and peace,<\/span><\/h2>\n

Whose path has encircled the world and alights<\/span>
\n Now in Edinburgh, where it has stayed.<\/span>
\n But my heart cries out for Manchester,<\/span>
\n For Manchester where I was made.<\/span><\/h2>\n

And I weep to see your suffering,<\/span>
\n Caused by minds deluded by hate,<\/span>
\n Yet tears of sadness are mixed with pride,<\/span>
\n Seeing what makes my hometown so great.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Strength and kindness in adversity,<\/span>
\n That brave, indomitable spirit,<\/span>
\n Bred by love that welcomes diversity,<\/span>
\n All embellished with pithy, street wit.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Mancunia, Mancunia!<\/span>
\n That fortress of northern souls,<\/span>
\n Your red brick streets and fields of dreams,<\/span>
\n Bear witness to impossible goals.<\/span><\/h2>\n

In grief we stand united,<\/span>
\n United we’ll rise from the ruins,<\/span>
\n Like so many who’ve gone before us,<\/span>
\n For in Manchester, that’s how we do things.<\/span><\/h2>\n
