Morning Practice
\n(for D\u00f3nal C.)<\/em><\/h3>\n

The leaves:\u00a0I’m sweeping them but still they fall<\/span>
\nupon the steps and all along the path –<\/span>
\nI wonder if I’ll reach the boundary wall.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The storm last night increased my brush’s haul,<\/span>
\nthough for this rain they will say\u00a0dhanyavaad<\/em>,<\/span>
\nI’m sweeping up the leaves and still they fall.<\/span><\/h3>\n

How fine to hear the dark blue song thrush call<\/span>
\nwhile smaller birds enjoy their dusty bath –<\/span>
\nthey’re sure to reach and pass the boundary wall.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Sometimes I think I’ll never clear them all –<\/span>
\nLike Milarepa fearing Marpa’s wrath –<\/span>
\nso still I’m sweeping leaves and still they fall.<\/span><\/h3>\n

From here in Sikkim via West Bengal,<\/span>
\nmy pilgrimage goes on into Sarnath,<\/span>
\nI plan to make it inside Deer Park’s wall.<\/span><\/h3>\n

I hope this spell in detail I’ll recall,<\/span>
\nonce I progress into its aftermath.<\/span>
\nMeanwhile I’m sweeping leaves but still they fall,<\/span>
\nI don’t know if I’ll reach the boundary wall.<\/span><\/h3>\n
