We asked the following two questions:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">1. How can we help a dying animal?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000\">2. How can we help an animal that has died?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">These two questions have been answered by Ringu Tulku, and Lama Tenkyab from Mindrolling monastery:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ringu Tulku\u2019s response:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00ab Generally there\u2019s nothing separate, you don\u2019t need to make any separation or any difference for what you do when you do when a human being dies or an animal dies from a Buddhist point of view.<br \/>\nSo you can do anything or everything you do for a human being.<br \/>\nAlso you can recite the names of Buddhas. Recite any mantras like Amitabha, vajrasattva, Chenrezig, Tara.<br \/>\nAll these kind of mantras you can say.<br \/>\nYou can also give blessed medicine to the animal before it dies or whatever you can do. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lama Tenkyab\u2019s response :<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00ab I think there\u2019s no difference when you do puja for dog, creature, animal even the human being. These are all the same. There\u2019s no particular practice\/prayer for the dog, creature, animal, insect.<br \/>\nWhen you do prayers it\u2019s the same for every being.<br \/>\nEven a small insect has consciousness,there\u2019s no difference, only the body. Some have big bodies, some have small bodies.<br \/>\nOtherwise all creatures, animals, everyone needs happiness, nobody wants to suffer<br \/>\nThere\u2019s no particular prayer\/puja for dog, creature, small insect, human being as everyone has Buddha nature. That\u2019s what I\u2019m thinking:-) (chuckles).\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Khenpo Rangdol\u2019s response:<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u201cThe first question is: <\/span>How can we help a dying animal.<br \/>\nIf you know some prayers like Chenrezig, Tara, Amitabha etc you can chant these.<br \/>\nIf you don\u2019t know these prayers then you can just make wishes.<br \/>\nYou can make lots of wishes like, \u2018May this animal die very peacefully, without having big problems, and big difficulties.\u2019<br \/>\nSo making wishing prayers is very important.<br \/>\nIf you are a Buddhist devotee you can put a little bit of these precious, blessed pills in the animal\u2019s mouth to connect with the dharma. This is because the animal doesn\u2019t know anything about the dharma. Wish for them to have a good rebirth in the next life as a human being or other being.<br \/>\nMake lots of prayers for this and share, and care, and love this dying animal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6682 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/d2wipdjmobk1g8.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/08\/26092627\/Woman-and-dog-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"301\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d2wipdjmobk1g8.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/08\/26092627\/Woman-and-dog-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/d2wipdjmobk1g8.cloudfront.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/08\/26092627\/Woman-and-dog.jpg 493w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The second question is, how to help an animal once it has died.<br \/>\nOK, and what practice do we do? So when the animal has already died, it\u2019s good to recite the prayer \u2018The King of Prayers\u2019, an aspiration prayer which is one of the most powerful texts. Not only this prayer, but also Buddha Amitabha\u2019s Pureland, Chenrezig prayers etc.<br \/>\nThere are a number of wishing prayers as well as your own.<br \/>\nIt would be good to offer some butter lamps, either in front of the dead animal, or at your home. Also anywhere, it doesn\u2019t matter.<br \/>\nIf you have some good connections with monks and nuns you can request them to say prayers for your lovely dead animal.
