                The world is a beautiful place \r\n                                                           to be born into \r\nif you don\u2019t mind happiness \r\n                                             not always being \r\n                                                                        so very much fun \r\n       if you don\u2019t mind a touch of hell\r\n                                                       now and then\r\n                just when everything is fine\r\n                                                             because even in heaven\r\n                                they don\u2019t sing \r\n                                                        all the time\r\n\r\n             The world is a beautiful place\r\n                                                           to be born into\r\n       if you don\u2019t mind some people dying\r\n                                                                  all the time\r\n                        or maybe only starving\r\n                                                           some of the time\r\n                 which isn\u2019t half so bad\r\n                                                      if it isn\u2019t you\r\n\r\n      Oh the world is a beautiful place\r\n                                                          to be born into\r\n               if you don\u2019t much mind\r\n                                                   a few dead minds\r\n                    in the higher places\r\n                                                    or a bomb or two\r\n                            now and then\r\n                                                  in your upturned faces\r\n         or such other improprieties\r\n                                                    as our Name Brand society\r\n                                  is prey to\r\n                                              with its men of distinction\r\n             and its men of extinction\r\n                                                   and its priests\r\n                         and other patrolmen\r\n                                                         and its various segregations\r\n         and congressional investigations\r\n                                                             and other constipations\r\n                        that our fool flesh\r\n                                                     is heir to\r\n\r\nYes the world is the best place of all\r\n                                                           for a lot of such things as\r\n         making the fun scene\r\n                                                and making the love scene\r\nand making the sad scene\r\n                                         and singing low songs of having \r\n                                                                                      inspirations\r\nand walking around \r\n                                looking at everything\r\n                                                                  and smelling flowers\r\nand goosing statues\r\n                              and even thinking \r\n                                                         and kissing people and\r\n     making babies and wearing pants\r\n                                                         and waving hats and\r\n                                     dancing\r\n                                                and going swimming in rivers\r\n                              on picnics\r\n                                       in the middle of the summer\r\nand just generally\r\n                            \u2018living it up\u2019\r\n\r\nYes\r\n   but then right in the middle of it\r\n                                                    comes the smiling  \r\nmortician\r\n\r\nThe world is a beautiful place to be born into'' by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, <\/span>\r\nfrom A CONEY ISLAND OF THE MIND, copyright \u00a91955 by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. <\/span>\r\nReprinted by permission of New Directions Publishing Corp. \r\n\r\nObituary: See The Guardian<\/a><\/span>.<\/em>\r\n<\/span><\/b>\r\n<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
