During his visit to Colorado Rinpoche gives a more general talk one evening on how to lessen our hatred by working on our fear.
A SUMMARY
by Maggy Jones
Rinpoche recounts many incidences of sudden violence including the attack on the Trade Centre. It is easy to have compassion for people worse off than yourself, but difficult to have the same feeling towards people who are in a better position. There is hatred, fear jealousy. This will destroy you. Hatred is the biggest problem that causes the evil. Compassion towards evil is difficult, but if you give hatred that makes it worse. Hatred is like cancer – it grows and takes over. We must try to develop our own compassion then talk about its value. Wisdom is having the courage to see things as they are without the fog of hatred. It is easy to justify anything but – take a deeper look. Wisdom is not intellectual but an experience, an insight that can be linked with compassion to become one. Consider the good things in your life as well as the problems.
