Part 1 begins with a public talk on Buddhism in daily life, an introduction to Buddhism.
Min 1.04 begin the teachings on Dzogchen and Maha Ati. Rinpoche is surprised that he agreed to teach such a difficult subject, but gives a general introduction.
Vajrayana can be defined in Nine Yanas,
first three: Sutrayana (Hinayana), Pratyekabuddhayana and Bodhisattvayana,
then: Three Outer Tantrayanas, Kriya, Charya and Yoga,
then: Three Inner Tantrayanas, Maha-Yoga, Anu-Yoga, Ati-Yoga
Usually teachings are not given on the most profound Tantras without preparations that are necessary to be able to understand.
Especially in the Kagyu and Nyingma school, Mahamudra and Dzogchen are the essence, and everything we do is to prepare ourselves.
Rinpoche gives explanations of the very basic things for the preparation. We need a strong understanding of renunciation, an experience of devotion and develop trust.
He also gives meditation instructions.
There is plenty of time for questions, most time is used for these:
– How to react when others tell you what to do or not to do?
– What is Alaya
