A talk on the topic Emotions Are Like Tornadoes.
Klesha and karma are said by the Buddha to be the cause of our suffering. Klesha means the negative emotions and ignorance.
Klesha be categorised in 3 groups: 1. the group of hatred, anger, maliciousness etc. 2. greed, desire, attachment; clinging and discontentment. 3. ignorance, confusion, not knowing how things truly are. Sometimes 4th and 5th group are added: 4. jealousy, envy etc. which are a combination of attachment and aversion, and 5. arrogance, pride etc.
If these take over, actions that follow will be harmful to ourselves and others. This is why they are called negative emotions. The history of humankind is more or less a history of wars. The negative emotions are very powerful. So, is there nothing we can do? Are we their slaves?
They are powerful, but we can see that there is actually one weakness in them. However strong they may be, they don’t last long. Just delaying one’s reaction will prevent the harmful consequences.
The whole of dharma teachings is about dealing with the kleshas. There are as many different methods as there are people, but those can be categorised mainly in three: 1. letting go, abandoning. 2. transforming. 3. transmuting.
The talk is followed by some questions and answers.
Two versions of the recordings: one with English only and the other with German translation.
