A rich and deep teaching clarifying the meaning of karma, which actually means action. Understanding karma is the basis of ethics. We can talk about karma as cause and karma as result. Karma can be changed, and even totally transcended, although that is not easy for us, because our habitual tendencies are strong.
“Ethics can be founded on a belief in karma,
because if we don’t feel that our actions will have a negative or positive effect on our future,
there is no reason to avoid negative activity or pursue positive activity”!
“The way I am now is my karmic result.
The way I am reflects the way I see the world.
If I change the causes, the result will be different.
I can always change.
But how I want to change, is up to me.
I can change for the worse (which is easy!)
or for the better.
BUT I need to make the causes and conditions for that. How strongly or quickly things change depends on how powerful the changes are that I make”.
“We can completely change and transform karma.
Karma is about what we become and what happens to us.
If our habit is to become repeatedly easily upset; we become more and more like that.
If our habit is to be repeatedly kind and gentle; we become more and more like that – and our view of the world, and interactions with our environment, improve accordingly too”.
