A teaching on the topic Karma Means Action.
First, karma is the action of body, speech and mind. Activity of the mind is the primary action, which then turns into action of body and speech. Karma means both.
Second, karma is the result of those actions.
Positive karma is something that is beneficial for oneself and others. Negative karma is something that is harmful for oneself and others. It can be a thought, an emotion, or an action of body or speech.
Whether it’s positive or negative, depends on motivation.
Our action is only one element among many. Even if I do my best, but all other elements do not come together, the result we wished for may not happen. Nevertheless, if the motivation was positive, the action can be regarded as positive.
We cannot always change the situations, but karma, however, means that we, ourselves, can change – for the better or the worse. What I do repeatedly, that way I will become. How I want to become, that should be my practice.
This is also the basis of ethics. The actions that will bring the desirable effect, I should do, and those that will bring an undesirable effect, I should not do.
After the talk Rinpoche answers some questions from the audience.
Two versions of the recording, one with English only and the other with German translation.
