A brief summary
Meditation is a training to work on our mind.
Buddhism is a training. It’s not a belief system, and not focused on a God, but on human life. The Buddha wanted to find out how to end suffering and bring lasting peace and happiness for all beings. Once he had found the way, he taught these three trainings: the training of wisdom, training on how to act, and the training of our mind, which is meditation.
The first thing to do in meditation is to relax. Mind is always aware, but we are usually not aware of this awareness, being either distracted or dull. With mindfulness as our tool, we bring back our awareness. We do this relaxedly. This is learning how to be relaxed and how to be aware, and to relax in that. We learn by doing this again and again.
