During these two sessions Rinpoche introduced this concise prayer and its meaning on different levels. The commentary used as reference is White Lotus by Jamgön Mipham Rinpoche.
A SUMMARY
by Maggy Jones
Part 1
The commentary is in two parts – the outer meaning of the words and the secret, deeper meaning. This short prayer is the most important of all prayers to Guru Rinpoche. He said that the worse the conditions in the world become, the stronger his power grows. Buddhism is about changing the world for the better but you must keep a stable, compassionate mind – anger corrupts. Use the 4 Activities, Peaceful, Wrathful, Magnetising increasing with Bodhicitta. Story about calling Guru Rinpoche using the prayer.
Rinpoche goes through the prayer and discusses different translations and interpretations. There is much suffering but we must not be overwhelmed – that does not help; with Bodhicitta and patience we can find ways to lighten the suffering. Q & A
Part 2
I have been asked to talk about “Tsok”. Tsok is important in Vajrayana. Tsok is 3 things: offering, purification, liberation. We bless it – to purify it, to make it inexhaustible, and invite all beings. Purification – we purify ourselves and environment; healing of and samaya, and 3rd liberation of self and others through compassion.
The secret meaning of the prayer is according to the path of liberation, the path of skilful means, and both together. I shall explain the path of liberation. “Hung” represents the nature of everything. “West” represents samsara and “North” enlightenment. The nature of our mind is beyond any “direction” or “location”.
Rinpoche goes through the prayer explaining the meaning(s) of each word. There are further instructions, but the important thing is to practise it, starting by using it as a Guru Yoga practice. Be positive, see all with compassion. Q & A
