The essential nature of a buddha or bodhisattva is that they have embraced the enlightened qualities of the five buddha families. To achieve this realisation it is necessary to abandon the five disturbing emotions (kleshas – Skt) – great attachment, anger or aggression, ignorance or bewilderment, pride and envy. When these disturbing emotions are purified, the five wisdoms shine forth.
Rinpoche teaches how we can work with kleshas and ultimately transform them into the Five Wisdoms. Rinpoche teaches using Patrul Rinpoche’s text ‘The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones’ as his reference.
He discusses three levels of working with the mind poisons as they arise: letting go of them, redirecting one’s awareness to the opposite of them and also self liberating them.
