Biography
Monica Kakkar is savoring her freedom, peace, silence, and solitude. She is learning to explore, express, connect, and celebrate through haiku and sciku. Her glass is full, her mind is open, her spirit is oneness, and her heart is overflowing with gratitude.
She won first place at the O-Haiku for Peace, Earth Day 2023 contest in Ojai, California, published on YouTube. She was one of twenty finalists for the Japan Experience Haiku Wall – Online Prize 2023, in Dublin, Ireland. She was a featured poet in Scarlet Dragonfly Journal Issue 13 on April 05, 2023, and Issue 14 on May 15, 2023.
She has published in Haikuniverse, Asahi Shimbun’s Asahi Haikuist Network, Scarlet Dragonfly Journal, The Exchange at The South Side Weekly, The Plum Tree Tavern, Cold Moon Journal, Haiku Newton 2023 on Poetry Newton, Haiku Newton 2023 binder at the Newton Free Library, and on Vashon Poetry Post, a cedar pole on Vashon Island, Washington, USA. In celebration of International Haiku Day 2023, her haiku were viewed at Mukai Farm & Garden Open House, and are on display at the garden during April and May 2023, on Vashon Island.
She enjoys participating in The Haiku Foundation’s Monthly Kukai and bi-weekly Haiku Dialogue. She looks forward to improving in her haiku journey with contests, festivals, anthologies, and journals.
