New Lazy Lama title – The Six Paramitas

The Bodhicharya Publications team are very happy to announce the publication of a new book in Rinpoche’s ‘Lazy Lama series’ about ‘The Six Paramitas‘.

At 268 pages, this is by far the largest Lazy Lama book to date, lovingly transcribed and edited by Karma Trinley Paldron with illustrations by Karma Orgyen Namdreul. The text was compiled from teachings given in 2015 at Gaunts House, Dorset UK, and in 2016 at Karma Dzong, Paris.

The Six Paramitas, or “transcendent perfections,” contain all the skills needed for taming the mind and opening the heart. Rinpoche reveals the Six Paramitas as bodhicitta in action, rather than an unattainable state of perfection. Through his wisdom and great compassion, warm humour and unfailing patience, Rinpoche shows us how these profound teachings are essential to our lives, especially in these times of stress and great uncertainty.

“I think everything that we need to improve our world, our society and our humanity is in the Six Paramitas. These practices can make our lives good temporarily, as well as bringing lasting peace and happiness.

This is an approach based on compassion, on wishing to help not only myself, but all of us together. The attitude is not “I and you,” but “me and we.” Someone who has the courage or heart for this approach is called a Bodhisattva; and this awakening is not only of yourself, but of everybody.”

Temporary closure of online bookshop

We have sadly taken the decision to close the online bookshop until the situation with Corvid-19 improves. There are increasing restrictions in the UK and the advice is to try and minimise all social contact. Sending books involves social contact as they are sent through the post.

We will close the shop after Sunday 22nd March, so if you want to buy some books to get you through the next few difficult months please place your order now and they will be sent next week.

We are still able to supply bulk orders to centres as a courier is used for these – please contact publications@bodhicharya.org for information.

Hopefully we will back in action soon.

Meeting Challenges: Unshaken by Life’s Ups and Downs

The Bodhicharya Publications team are very happy to announce the publication at this time of a new Heart Wisdom volume of Rinpoche’s teachings. Meeting Challenges: Unshaken by Life’s Ups and Downs contains Rinpoche’s commentary on a text by the Third Do Drupchen Rinpoche all about bringing happiness and unhappiness onto our paths. Thus it provides a succinct teaching on the very essence of Dharma practice in our own lives and how to go about it.

When times are hard and we have challenges, how can we meet them in a good way; in a way that will not create further unnecessary suffering for ourselves or others? Since we all have our own challenges in life, this really is an extraordinarily useful teaching. But, similarly, how can we take the joyful times in our lives so they do not become a cause for problems (when they pass, as all things must, for example)? Learning these techniques will offer us a path towards true equanimity and peace.

Radiance of the Heart

To bring you some warmth this wintertime, Bodhicharya Publications is very happy to announce the publication of a new Heart Wisdom book.

Radiance of the Heart presents Ringu Tulku’s teachings on Kindness, Compassion and Bodhicitta. Following on from the publication last year of the Lazy Lama booklet Lazy Lama looks at Loving-Kindness, this text develops this core topic further. Drawing on five teaching sources, the text first encourages us with a practical look at how to bring kindness and compassion into our daily lives. Ringu Tulku discusses themes of meditation and the practice of tonglen; and answers a wide range of questions.

The text then looks towards kindness and compassion from a more ultimate perspective: Ultimate Bodhicitta, the heart essence of enlightenment. Embodying such understanding brings an ever purer expression of kindness and compassion, imbued with deepening wisdom. Thus, the text aims to present a wide-ranging, but pithy, contemplation of this subject, central to the hearts and lives of us all.

Copies will be available in February and you can pre-order your copy from Bodhicharya Publications here in the Book Shop.

New Lazy Lama book – Loving Kindness

In this seventh booklet in the Lazy Lama series, Ringu Tulku looks at how we all need love and asks us to consider the benefits of generating loving kindness for each other. Rinpoche shares with us an Indian saying;

‘ When the trees support each other then we have houses and cities, when human beings support each other we have society, we have civilization.’

So, the whole of society, of civilization, survives by supporting and helping each other. But how can we, as imperfect human beings, offer even an ‘imperfect’ love, and is that enough? Yes, says Rinpoche, we can and should start from where we are. We can offer loving kindness, help and support for each other now, while aspiring towards an ideal unconditional love. Rinpoche encourages us, in these seemingly simple and concise teachings, to develop the courage of a hero dedicated to love, and to find our true brave heart.

It is available to pre-order now in the Book Shop.

Bodhicharya Publications update

book-background

Bodhicharya Publications are very happy to let the wider Bodhicharya community know about our latest developments, following our AGM last month:

  • We have sold around 4000 books in the last two years. These are sales of all Rinpoche’s books that we publish, which are currently: 6 Lazy Lama Series books; 7 Heart Wisdom Series books; 1 book of stories.
  • Our largest investment of profits, made this year, has gone into creating a new online web archive which will give members access to all Rinpoche’s teachings in recorded format. This large scale project is very much still in progress but you will be the first to hear when it is ready….
  • We also made a donation to Rigul Trust of £1500 from profits made.
  • We published two new titles over the last 12 months: “Parables from the Heart,” a collection of Rinpoche’s stories, edited by Patricia Little, with Mary Heneghan. And “Being Pure: The Practice of Vajrasattva,” compiled and edited by Mary Heneghan.
  • All our titles remain on sale from the Bodhicharya website Book Shop and Amazon.

Thank you for supporting this work through buying Rinpoche’s books – we hope you enjoy them.

Being Pure: The Practice of Vajrasattva

Being-Pure-cover

We are very happy to announce the publication of Ringu Tulku’s latest Heart Wisdom book: Being Pure: The Practice of Vajrasattva.

This book contains his teachings on the practice of Vajrasattva, including first Taking Refuge; and explores in some depth what it means to ‘be pure,’ to ‘purify’ or to ‘realise Vajrasattva.’ These teachings were originally given at Bodhicharya Meditation Centre in Sikkim, so contain some of the essence of how these concepts can be explored more deeply in the spaciousness of retreat.

The book also presents the root text by His Holiness 17th Karmapa, which Rinpoche’s teaching is a commentary on. And incorporates calligraphies of Vajrasattva’s mantras by Tashi Mannox and an image of Vajrasattva by Salga. Compiled and edited by Mary Heneghan, with layout and design by Paul O’Connor.

It is available now to pre-order in the Book Shop.
