Journey from Head to Heart: Along a Buddhist Path

HW6_2ndeditionCover-1

New Heart Wisdom book out now!

Ringu Tulku’s latest book presents 37 short teachings, designed to be read individually and integrated with our practice and daily life. Together they take us on a journey through the vehicles of Buddhism, elucidating some common misunderstandings and basic principles of the Buddhist path, all the while encouraging us to move from our head (intellectual understanding) towards our heart (experiential understanding).

‘To get an experiential understanding you have to go deep into yourself and learn how to bring your awareness and mindfulness to the place from which you deeply experience. It is a matter of ‘heart’ rather than ‘head’. Sometimes it is said that the longest journey is from your head to your heart. Which is what we mean when we talk about developing the right view and understanding it experientially. This is an on going process.’

Lastest Heart Wisdom Book. Out Now!

Dealing with Emotions.
Scattering the Clouds

In this book, Ringu Tulku looks at our negative emotions, how more positive counterparts may be brought out and how we can release emotions to reveal our innate wisdom. He provides guidance for this gradual process and uses stories to illustrate points along the way.

We can only put these teachings into practice step by step. Ultimately, though, there is no emotion that cannot be released into its wisdom counterpart and there is no limit to the love and compassion we can develop. These practices have the potential to completely transform our lives.

‘Confusion Arises as Wisdom’ – Rinpoche’s New Book Is Now Available

Rinpoche’s new book, CONFUSION ARISES AS WISDOM, is now available. It will be available through Amazon etc. in September, but can be bought directly from Shambhala.com now.

How could confusion arise as wisdom? According to the Mahamudra view, confusion arises as wisdom when we realize that everything we experience is the radiance of the mind’s own nature. And what is the nature of our mind? And how do we come to recognize that? These are the questions Gampopa answers for his students in the text commented upon here, known as the Great Community Talks. He shows them—and now us—the path of deep understanding and meditation that leads to the realization of Mahamudra, the “Great Seal” of the true nature of reality.

“The Tibetan Buddhist teachings on the freedom that comes from perceiving the emptiness of all phenomena—teachings known collectively by the name Mahamudra—are presented here with remarkable clarity through commentary on a twelfth-century text. The text is “Gampopa’s Great Teachings to the Assembly,” by Gampopa, the foremost disciple of the legendary figure Milarepa and founder of Tibetan Buddhism’s Kagyu school. The commentary is by Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, a contemporary teacher of deep learning and profound practice with a remarkable gift for presenting these traditional teachings in a way that is accessible to Western hearts and minds.” (via Shambhala.com)

Like Dreams and Clouds

Emptiness & Interdependence
Mahamudra & Dzogchen

The Fourth book in the Heart Wisdom series, by Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, will be available from early December. It is a beautiful and concise exploration of core topics of dharma practice which should interest new students and experienced practitioners alike.

Emptiness or Interdependence describes the key philosophical view of Buddhism. An experiential understanding of this is the basis for appreciating Buddhist teaching deeply. Ringu Tulku gives us a short, clear, step-by-step practical discussion of this central topic and looks at how it applies to our lives.

This teaching is combined in this edition with a revised edit of another favorite teaching by Ringu Tulku which was originally published as the first in the Heart Wisdom series. This covers Mahamudra and Dzogchen: approaches which provide skilful means and an overall path by which we can realize the true nature of ourselves, our world and all things – as none other than emptiness or interdependence.

This latest book of Rinpoche’s teachings is brought to you by a concerted effort of many students. With thanks to Margaret Ford for overseeing and coordinating the project to bring this teaching into concrete form and Paul O’Connor for continuing to provide inspiring layout for Rinpoche’s teachings. And with appreciation of the whole Bodhicharya Publications team, many of whom have contributed to this edition; and also all the students who organised teachings and took part in the gatherings this book came out of.

The book is available on Amazon here.
