The "Middle Way" Study Group | on ZOOM
4 May 2026 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
“The Middle Way” is a new peer to peer, self-study group with the objective of helping each other build the basic vocabulary and explore some of the ideas of Buddhist philosophy, culminating with Nagarjuna’s Middle Way. We have started a shared journey, covering the foundations of the theories of non-self, the Abhidharma schools and the various Mahayana schools on emptiness.
The group is open to everyone, particularly to non-experts: the only pre-requisite is curiosity about the topics.
We will try to make the discussions lively, useful and lightened up by a good dose of humour.

The Chenresig Practice is the most widely practised Tibetan Buddhist meditation which involves recitation, a visualisation and mantras. It is designed to stabilise the mind in compassion.
We will be doing this practice together in Tibetan with English translation. It involves a simple visualisation, reading the text together and reciting the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum”. Through doing this practice, we invoke love and compassion for all sentient beings in the form of Chenrezig, a symbol of the compassion of all Buddhas. Ringu Tulku wrote an excellent commentary on the practice, which can be bought here.
All are welcome, no previous experience or knowledge of Buddhism required.

Charles Manson Meditation Teaching - Karma Pakshi (The Buddhist Society & Zoom)
7 May 2026 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
The Buddhist Society, 58 Eccleston Square, Pimlico, London SW1V 1PH, UK
Charles Manson spent eight years in secluded meditation retreat. He later studied at Harvard University and currently works as a librarian for the Tibetan Collections at the Bodleian Library (Oxford University) and at the British Library in London.
We shall participate in guided meditation sessions with Charles. These unique, valuable guided meditation sessions are gaining ever increasing appreciation. If you cannot come to The Buddhist Society, you can always attend on Zoom, but it's even better in person.
Karma Pakshi was the first recorded Tulku (reincarnated Lama) in the Tibetan tradition. Charles recently translated Karma Pakshi's autobiographical material from the original Tibetan sources. See here for Charles' discusssion on his book about Karma Pakshi.
As part of an ongoing programme, and responding to requests for more meditation instruction, Charles is presenting graded meditations as instructed by Karma Pakshi. It is especially valuable to get guided meditations devised by Karma Pakshi himself from an experienced meditator such as Charles.
Charles writes, "… I was slightly surprised how well the meditations worked out - a good group. … I would be happy to continue to present the meditations as the project develops. … I suggest we maybe arrange that I do a session on this subject (a minimal amount of talking, then leading the meditation) … Can I suggest [...] the first Thursday of each month.
So, I'm looking forward to our next session with Charles!

These meeting are open to all people who are new or who are familiar with Buddhism and Buddhist meditation. On the first Tuesday of the month we will spend a little more time explaining the Buddhist perspective on life and the meaning of the Refuge Prayer we begin our sessions with, but everyone is welcome at any of our meetings and you can begin anytime. The group is made up of the participants, so active engagement, questions, reflections and discussion are welcome, however, if you prefer to just sit back, listen, reflect and take it in, then that is perfectly okay too.
There are comfortable chairs and meditation cushions available and refreshments are provided.

The Buddha of Compassion | on ZOOM
27 May 2026 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

From 16 January 2021 onwards we study Ringu Tulku Rinpoche’s course on Shantideva’s Bodhisattvacharyāvatāra in a weekly discussion and support group. The text can be found here. The teachings by Ringu Tulku can be found on bodhicharya.org.
We will be starting from the very first teaching, going through the course week by week. We’ll listen to the recorded teachings in our own time, then we can come together to share and discuss what we make of it individually, each having our own time slot to talk in. We can pool our relative understanding on these vital teachings and share what pertains to each of our individual paths, kindly supporting each other. We will also be able to ask Ringu Tulku questions in his monthly Q&A sessions on this course.
Anyone who is on Ringu Tulku’s Bodhicharyavatara course, at any stage, is welcome to use this space to discuss their understanding and practice of it. We will help each other with the English language if needed.

Bodhicharya Bosham Weekly Meetings
Bodhicharya Bosham Weekly Meetings
28 May 2026 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Hamblin Hall, Bosham House, Main Rd, Bosham, Nr Chichester, PO18 8PJ.
1st Thursday of every month
“CHENREZIG PUJA" Evening
Chenrezig symbolises compassion and a Puja is a practice involving chanting, visualisation and meditation. This is an aspirational ritualistic practice to imagine how it might feel to have limitless compassion for ourselves, others, and discover what stands in our way.
ALL Other Thursday Evenings
“Meditation, Learn, Question, Reflect"
Each evening is opened with some chanting and some time to meditate. Guided meditations are offered if needed, if not we will mediate in silence.
Some time is then devoted to leaning, discussion and reflection. This is an open forum style, whereby the facilitator will present an aspect of Buddhist teachings and philosophy. The group will discuss the practical applications of these ideas and their own experiences of integrating Buddhist teaching into their day-to-day life.
The evenings close with some more chanting and a dedication.
