Saga Dawa (Wesak) Festival
31 May 2026 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Bodhicharya UK Buddhist Centre, New Rd, Rochester ME1 1DX, UKWesak/Vesak is one of the most important festivals common to many Buddhist traditions. It celebrates the Buddha’s birth and for some it also marks his enlightenment and death (Parinirvana). It is seen as a time to reflect on the Buddha’s teachings and what it means to be a Buddhist. However, everyone is welcome to join the celebration, to find out more about Buddhism and enjoy the occasion.

These meetings are open to all people who are new or who are familiar with Buddhism and Buddhist meditation. On the first Tuesday of the month we will spend a little more time explaining the Buddhist perspective on life and the meaning of the Refuge Prayer we begin our sessions with, but everyone is welcome at any of our meetings and you can begin anytime. The group is made up of the participants, so active engagement, questions, reflections and discussion are welcome, however, if you prefer to just sit back, listen, reflect and take it in, then that is perfectly okay too.
There are comfortable chairs and meditation cushions available and refreshments are provided.

This 1.5-hour workshop will integrate a yoga strength practice with sequences, balance postures, and enjoyment! Yoga for strength and balance is key for preserving our posture, core strength, muscle and joint mobility, and a healthy heart. As aging and wear and tear naturally occur, it's crucial to continue our strength and balance exercises to remain functionally active in our daily activities and tasks. The practice also helps maintain healthy bones and supports mental and emotional well-being.
